With less than 2 weeks to go until the opening race of the 2010 UniSA Australian HPV Super Series, the sport has received a huge boost from one of South Australia’s most trusted and respected icons – the RAA.
The RAA is pitching in with some impressive prizes and a terrific sponsorship deal, which we’ll see introduced in Round 3 in September (which is, of course, the biggie of them all – The Australian International Pedal Prix).
And, making the news even more impressive, the RAA is with us for the long term, signing an exciting three year deal.
“What a bonus to the sport,” said a very enthused AIPP Chairman, Mr Andrew McLachlan. “Everyone knows that the RAA is an organisation committed to safer roads and safer road behaviour. They provide a key voice in representing the interests and views of all road users – cyclists, motorists, pedestrians and public transport users – and it makes a ton of sense that they should join us in running an event that is so steeped in education, community values and safety.”
In fact, in Round 3, there’ll be $2000 worth of cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placegetters in each of the categories, thanks to the RAA. Each vehicle will be provided with RAA signage, and you’ll be racing through the RAA Chicane and under the RAA Bridge. In fact, the RAA will be everywhere!
RAA Education Coordinator, Mr Ben Haythorpe, is stoked that the RAA is joining the world’s biggest HPV event.
“The RAA and the Australian International Pedal Prix will be doing some great work together,” said Ben. “Road safety is something that many road users tend to take for granted, but unfortunately we are all at risk each and every time we venture out on the road. The Pedal Prix is ideal as a sport to really push road safety for bike riders and pedestrians and motorists alike.”
Ben also added: “RAA events and programs such as Tell the World, Street Smart and keys2drive are aimed at engaging our young people, while the awareness program Years Ahead is specially designed for more mature drivers.”
Andrew McLachlan said that such support from hugely respected sponsors adds to the growing voice of the UniSA Super Series.
“The RAA coming on board is a huge bonus to everyone involved in the sport,” he said as we inspected the Victoria Park track this week. “Strong bodies such as the RAA, in joining us, are saying to the community, government and business world, ‘stand up and take notice: this is an event of huge value!’”
Speaking of Victoria Park, the track’s looking good. It won’t be long now. Soon the preparations will be done, and it’ll be race day – and Season 2010 will be upon us.
Keep training! And watch this space! |
