Formula Tri-Sled teams battle it out for the Series
7th September 2009
Contenders in the new Formula Tri-Sled class took to the field at rounds 1 & 2 of the Super Series, battling it out in sunshine, rain, darkness and mud. Now these new and upcoming teams face their toughest challenge yet: 24-hours in the vehicle at Murray Bridge!
Tri-Sled’s mathematical gurus are currently working on a formula to calculate a Formula Tri-Sled winner for each round of the Series, as well as an overall winner of the class. Winners will receive a trophy designed and sponsored by Tri-Sled HPVs. Formula Tri-Sled is the only class where primary school teams could potentially defeat secondary teams at the podium.
The Formula Tri-Sled class aims to get new or struggling teams competing in the event at an affordable cost. The class is based on Tri-Sled's popular Formula Tri-Sled model, which involves students and team members in the assembly of a corflute fairing kit.
While Formula Tri-Sled teams span several different racing categories, they share two things in common: every team is racing the same vehicle, and they are all in their early stages of their HPV racing careers. Tri-Sled Director Ben Goodall explained why he believes this is a winning formula: ‘The aim of Formula Tri-Sled was to get new teams involved in this sport as easily as possible. We all know how difficult and costly it can be to get started and navigate around the rules and building procedures. Formula Tri-Sled takes care of the tricky part of the build and gets teams involved in the assembly of their fairing. Better still, it places teams on an even playing field with other similar competitors so at the end of the day, the winner comes down to which team rode the best race.’
AIPP Chairman Andrew McLachlan said that Formula Tri-Sled was making in-roads into building the sport: ‘This new class strikes a good balance between support for new teams and DIY building. We’re already seeing teams that otherwise might not have become involved entering this new class and giving the sport a go. Better still, it gives teams a realistic chance of taking home a win in their first year of racing!’
