Championship in the Balance

1st August 2009
Many Records Tumble

The UniSA HPV Endurance 9 Hour has been run and won at Victoria Park, with some big results for many of the 169 teams involved – a record number of starters for an Adelaide-based round. In a moment, we’ll look at who made the podium over the weekend.

Such a big day, Round 2; the results are so important in the context of the annual championship. Which leads us to ask a list of important questions: how is your team poised for the UniSA Australian HPV Super Series titles? Can you hold on and win it? Can you still climb the ladder?  Will you do better than last year? Which teams blitzed the field over the weekend, and which ones fell away from the front?

Well, we can answer some of those questions right now.

Check out the Results link to see where the teams are sitting for Season 2009. The Australian International Pedal Prix is now ripe with opportunity for many teams. Although some trends have emerged, no category is spoken for; as we all know, the 24 hour race brings many surprises.

Good luck in your preparation for September, and thanks for a great Round 2 of the UniSA Australian HPV Super Series. We can’t wait for Round Three!

Before we end this article, we have some sad news this week, as you may be aware.

The Australian International Pedal Prix Board wishes to extend its sincerest condolences to the family, friends, team and school of Trevor McPeake, who raced in Round Two for Das Racing 2 (William Light R-12 School). We know that Trevor was having a great day with his team. We are sure he would have been very proud of the way the William Light R-12 teams rallied together and decided to ride on in his honour. As an organisation, we have been very moved by the situation, and we mourn your loss. To all who knew and loved Trevor, our thoughts are with you.

In relation to Sunday, special thanks must be given to St John’s and to the many people who assisted on the day. It must be said that the conduct of everyone involved in the race was exemplary, and on behalf of the team and the AIPP, we thank you for that. It certainly shows how close knit the Pedal Prix family is, and how good people can be.
