Astounding Day of Racing at UniSA Australian HPV Super Series Launch
What an unforgettable opener for the start of the UniSA Australian HPV Super Series. South Australian Premier Mike Rann officially started today’s six hour race with an animated wave of the Australian flag, and for the next six hours, the race provided a mixture of thrills and mayhem.
On arguably the wettest track in Round One history, teams found the conditions particularly tough. It made for spectacular and hair-raising racing, with many teams coming a cropper during the six hours. But it also made for a new set of challenges, and teams worked themselves to the limit to push towards gaining the best results they could.
We’ll have a look at the results soon – but first, let’s focus on some of the things we’ve discussed today over the PA.
Mr Rann said it was a terrific thing for the state, with the focus on health and community, and learning valuable skills. His first ever Pedal Prix event, Mr Rann was clearly impressed with the ingenuity and dedication of the team members, and keenly wandered through the grid formation prior to the race to speak to the riders and their support crews.
Also, UniSA watched the race, proud to be a part of the event. AIPP Chairman Andrew McLachlan spoke of the synergy between the AIPP and UniSA. “We both promote the same ideals,” said Mr McLachlan. “Striving for excellence, learning and improving, living to our potential – UniSA is a superb partner to the Australian International Pedal Prix. We look forward to a long relationship with UniSA.”
Also, watch the Pedal Prix website www.pedalprix.com.au for upcoming details of our new relationship with The Cancer Council of South Australia.
And, further to that, we had great interest from Channel 7, ABC, Channel 9 and The Advertiser.
